Four Months…

My darling Michael,

last week you turned four months, a milestone that at times we never thought we would see.

For such a teensy person you are so wise. Sometimes, when I’m looking into those deep pools of eyes I know that you KNOW so much more than most at your age.

And of course, you do.

These last few months have taught me an endless amount, but do you know what you, YOU in particular have taught me? That I can’t control everything. You, my precious bundle, have taken my control freakery and discarded it with a flick of your tiny fingers. You are amazing, and I am a better person because of it.

When you ask about your scar on your belly I will show you my scar, from when you were born, our symbol that will bond us forever – our special power.

Sometimes, I might seem too strict. Sometimes, I might shriek “I sat by your hospital bed for WEEKS on end”, sometimes, you may even not like me very much. Remember that always I love you. And I am only trying to protect you from the world.

You and your brother are my beginning and my end.  You are my fairy tale, my reminder to always believe in happy endings.

And for that, my darling, I thank you. xxx

10 Irish parenting bloggers have joined forces in a “BlogMarch” to raise awareness of the crippling impact that cuts to child benefit will have on Irish families if introduced in December’s budget. The bloggers are publishing a blog post each over ten days to highlight the negative impact that child benefit cuts will have. You can catch up on who is saying what, right here.

If you’d like to lend your support, you can sign the online petition here.

About Ciara McDonnell

Ouch My Fanny Hurts was born in the late stages of my first pregnancy. I was sick and tired of everyone going on and ON about how brilliant it is to be pregnant, when actually, lots of it was quite crap really. And, my fanny hurt a lot. So, I decided to tell the truth about my experience while I was pregnant, and the journey I have been on since, as our little fella grew a little bigger, and we brought our second son into the world in what turned out to be fairly scary circumstances. It’s my story, and I am delighted to share it.
