To Matthew, on his second birthday

Today, my darling Matthew, you are two.

Proud doesn’t even begin to describe the giant bubble of magnificence that bursts out of me when I think of you. You are my marvel, my hurricane, my LOVE.

This past year has thrown you plenty of curveballs. You have weathered these storms with grace and kindness; a trait that we didn’t teach you; it is part of your soul.

Every day I get to spend with you is a privilege, every minute a joy. You are the most hilarious person I know – there is nobody who can make me laugh like you do.

You despise seeing your Dad go off to work every day, but I know the best moment of HIS day comes when you hurtle yourself with full force on top of him as he comes in the door each evening.

My favourite part of the day is first thing, when you are still warm, and cosy, and blurry with sleep. It is one of my greatest pleasures snuggling you into wakefulness, and watching as your eyes begin to brighten into the new day.

You are the best big brother. You are gentle, and careful of Michael, and have welcomed him into our family with such generosity of spirit. The day we took him home from the hospital was our family’s best day, and you trumped us all by tottering your first steps as I walked in the door.

We can’t remember what it was like before you came, because before then our lives lacked the fairy dust that you so liberally sprinkle on us.

I love you. WE love you. The world is so much better with you in it.

Happy Birthday my angel boy. xxxx

For Matthew, on his first birthday

About Ciara McDonnell

Ouch My Fanny Hurts was born in the late stages of my first pregnancy. I was sick and tired of everyone going on and ON about how brilliant it is to be pregnant, when actually, lots of it was quite crap really. And, my fanny hurt a lot. So, I decided to tell the truth about my experience while I was pregnant, and the journey I have been on since, as our little fella grew a little bigger, and we brought our second son into the world in what turned out to be fairly scary circumstances. It’s my story, and I am delighted to share it.
